What you see here is one end of our garden~
mainly the cabbages & okra.
The other end is the squash, beans, & peas. The sweet corn runs the entire length along the back.
The cucumbers are climbing their fence
higher & higher!
The potatoes are almost all gone into our tummys! The tomatoes are our favorite and just beginning to turn red. Only 1 of our carrot plants survived. Obviously we don't know how to grow carrots! The onions are steady growing but not ready yet either. Need I explain why I haven't blogged lately? lol We are busy picking, canning, packaging, & freezing veggies for the winter! This is the most wonderful time of year! We LOVE gardening!!!
Now THAT is a garden. WOW! I will not be posting pics of ours! We are having a rough go! Our first big garden, and the weeds are taking over. :( Hopefully it will get better. Good work. ;)

LOL I'm married to a farmer, and this is what he knows! Our first few big gardens required much more work and eventually a weed take over that choked out our plants. With lots of little kiddos & him working this time of year, I was unable to help keep the weeds out. Ours too were a bust! Finally, we began planting it just like we plant the 125+ acres of watermelons. We plant on rows of 4 feet wide black plastic with a drip water system (similar to a soaker hose) directly underneath. It hooks up to our water hose with a $30 gadget from Grower's Supply. Plus, the lines are reusable every year. He fertilizes directly through the those lines. The plastic prevents weeds. He plows or tills between each rows occasionally. All I have to do is pick, and the kids love to help with that! I know Chad could master this if he can build a chicken plucker!!! lol

Deletewow! Praise God for the harvest! That's what I miss most about south GA is the garden! :( We tried to plant up here this year and we just aren't use to the different soil and all. So... We didn't make much. We are gonna have to find a farmer in these parts to teach us how to farm it. LOL!

Wow! Your garden is GORGEOUS! I'm "green" with envy :) Tee-hee! Unfortunately, I was not in the green thumb line when God was handing out gifts. Fortunately, my husband was! He does all the gardening around here (and most of the canning, too). But I am learning! I have put up 7 quarts of green beans, 300 ears of corn, and 4 quarts of cut-off corn. Pittling, I know, but I am getting there. I just need to keep reading your blog :).
ReplyDeleteWe are about to purchase a home that has plenty of acreage for a farm, and so we plan to have goats and pigs (we already have chickens). So...it should be interesting!
